Is 1,000 goals realistic for Cristiano Ronaldo? Ex-Premier League rival tells Al-Nassr superstar ‘he’s going to get there’ as Portuguese GOAT approaches 40th birthday

The all-time great has surged past the 900 mark this season, with there no sign of him slowing down at 39 years of age. Ronaldo will turn 40 in February 2025, but intends to play on well beyond that point. Any thoughts of retirement are being put on hold indefinitely.

CR7 remains a talismanic presence for his country and a regular source of goals for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, with the captain’s armband being filled at domestic and international level. Given all that he has achieved, it would take a brave soul to bet against Ronaldo reaching four figures in the goal stakes.

Ex-Chelsea captain Terry, who once battled with Manchester United legend Ronaldo for Premier League and Champions League crowns, believes the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will hit his ultimate target. Terry has told Nassr TV: “These top players like Ronaldo – he’s phenomenal, honestly incredible. He’s one of these players you could just watch. You watch his goals, his movement – he loves to score.

“He’s at that right from the very start and to still be doing that at the age of 39 is absolutely incredible. And believe me, it’s not the end. He’s aiming for the 1,000 goals. He’s going to get there for sure. He’s going to get there. I really hope he does because he’s a pleasure to watch.”

Ronaldo is up to 775 goals at club level, with the evergreen frontman already into double figures for the 2024-25 campaign. He has a further 135 international efforts to his name and is expected to prolong his remarkable career until at least the next World Cup finals in 2026.
